Unofficial vanilla WOW server launches Saturday
Elysium’s brand new, fresh-start World of Warcraft server will launch Saturday, 7th January. As with any major event concerning World of Warcraft expect server crashes and long waiting times for the first day or so.
The Nostalrius PvP and PvE servers were resurrected by Elysium in December, saved character data and all, having been closed by Blizzard’s lawyers earlier in 2016. They are, after all, against Blizzard’s rules.
Server populations on Nostalrius’s servers sometimes exceeded 10,000 active players at a time.
This over-population led to problems, and the resurrected Nostalrius PvE and PvP servers suffered long queues, bugs, glitches and downtime. Arguably, the more attractive Fresh Realm will most probably encounter similar issues.
The Nostalrius-Elysium vanilla WoW servers are free to play on. There’s no fee for the game and no fee for the service, although you can donate to mitigate server running costs.
The Elysium website will walk you through what to do next. Be advised you are doing this at your own risk as, again, these servers are not official or sanctioned by Blizzard by any means.
